A rescue with good intentions is traveling the wrong path.
Second chance animal rescue of Southeast oklahoma is a relativly new "rescue" here in my area of Ok. This is from their "about" on the FB page.
We at Second Chance Animal Rescue of South East Oklahoma are dedicated to the welfare of unwanted domestic and farm animals.
Currently we are set up for dogs, cats, rabbits, domestic birds, ferrets and other small animals.
To adopt from Second Chance you must fill out a form before the animal is placed in your care. It is a legal and binding contract outlining the adoption and care and fees of the animal being adopted.
There is a small "re-homing" fee for any animal depending on how much money we put into the animal to help curb the cost of caring for them while with us.
The horses will also have re-homing fees according to the cost of improving their health, any vet care (documented) and other costs.
RECORDS ARE KEPT ON ALL ANIMALS AT SECOND CHANCE as well as any donations we receive. These records are available upon request.
As of August we have been able to spay/neuter all cats/dogs that are adopted from us.
While we are not a 501(c)3 at this time, we are looking forward to having the status in the future. This does NOT make us an illegal rescue, just a rescue that can not be used as a tax right off at this time.
Tara Stephens is the owner of 2nd Chance Animal Rescue of SE OK and Cindy Gettle helps foster the animals.
We are always seeking volunteers to help care for the animals, such as fencing and repairs, trees cut, cages built, grooming, feeding and socializing. Just a little bit of your time is a huge help!
We also seek donations of all kinds.
Dog food
Cat Food
Horse feed
Hay
Feed Buckets
Water Buckets
Cages
lead ropes
halters
Vet wraps
collars for dogs and cats
7-in-1 vaccination packages

Please keep in mind that some of the photos that are posted on here are photos of what the animals look like when they are rescued and shows why they need and deserve to be rescued!
Any animals, particularly horses will be visited by Tara about every 6 months for at least 3 visits, after adoption to make sure the horses are taken care of properly and are continuing to improve in health.

We believe in spaying and neutering all of the animals that we can afford to get done. If we don't do it, it is in our contracts to have it done. The only way to decrease the need for shelters, stop the flippers, and cut the costs of health care for our pets is to spay and neuter them. Please be a responsible pet owner... get them fixed! Thanks!

This group will not tolerate harassment, name calling or bad mouthing any members or other groups in any way shape or form. You will be removed without notice.
I am going to start with I know Tara Stephens. I have sent horses to her rescue. No I have not been to her rescue. I am going by what she and Cindy Gettle post on the Facebook wall and on other websites. These women have their hearts in the right place. HONESTLY they do. But that will only do so much. I know the Stigler pound really sucks and does nothing for the animals in their "care"
(Stigler does not charge an adoption fee and give no vet care I again like facts so here are the facts:
Stigler Pound Dogs 11/21/12 (10 photos) < This is from another rescue site called SOAR that these same women work with >
The Stigler Pound is a kill shelter. The pets in here are on 5 day stray hold and their time is running short. With the help of another rescue, Second Chance Animal Rescue of South East Oklahoma. It is our goal to find these furry friends forever loving homes. To adopt from the pound directly is free. If you want to adopt and want them spayed/neutered and rabies vaccinated, it costs only $20.00 which will be done through me as the pound does not do this. For their 7-way vaccinations it is another $5.00 bringing the total to $25.00. We will also transport to and from SpayOk. If wanting to adopt direct from the pound, please call 918-967-2164 Mon thru Fri 8:30am to 3:30pm. Or me at 918-967-2125, or Tara at 918-441-1023. Any questions please feel free to ask. .)
So back to the subject. One of the reasons I am writing this is because I HAVE been in their shoes. The best of intentions and doing our damnedest to care for all the animals and wanting to do more. I am not saying in any way shape or form that this is abuse but what I am saying is that this rescue is running EXACTLY the same way as I was running mine (on a shoestring some of the methods need to be changed tho!) and that there are many other rescues that do run on a shoestring and are setting themselves up for the same fate I got. Arrested, raided, jailed, and sentenced to years without animals, life destroyed and forever branded an abuser.
The second reason I am writing this is not to "out" Tara or any other rescue but to show how what you may not consider abuse could be perceived by the internet world as abuse/cruelty and to gently warn them that maybe just maybe you need to change your ways. Yes for a little while I did want to blast them and scream "why in the hell are you getting away with the same things I was doing that destroyed my life??!!" But I realize that first of all I have an enemy that her goal was to destroy me and I could have had all of my ducks in a row and it would not have made a difference. Second Tara and others like her would be better served with help instead of a take down.
So here is what I am talking about: (All of the information is taken directly from their own posts and websites.)

Second Chance animal rescue has plenty more on their facebook page. To see just click on the name at the top of the blog. Rescues are NEEDED badly in this area. But this rescue needs help and I am not saying a raid but just guidance before they become victims of a raid and the women that run this become outcasts instead of viable members of the rescue world. Many would say I should not even talk about other rescues because I was no better. Well I am because of my history. Maybe if someone would have stepped forward and extended a helping hand when I asked for help instead of pointing a finger, maybe if I can use my experience to stop a rescue from going down the path that I was on trying to help animals and getting overwhelmed then it was all for something. I am NOT judging them because I KNOW exactly what they are thinking, feeling and trying to do. And that is not worth jailing them for and destroying their lives and lives of the animals in their care.
