Humane Society of the United States keeps quiet about Parvovirus
The thought of a new found friend contracting the Parvo virus at a tender young age brings terrible pictures to mind but there are other issues behind Parvo lurking in the background.
It is extremely important to give your new puppyall its Parvo shots and to keep him/her protected, away from other dogs and their playgrounds, until their last booster shot. Do not assume that the puppy is completely vaccinated when bringing them home for the first time. Booster shots are needed up until about 12-16 weeks old. Parvo Infection is highly contagious and serious, causing debilitating diarrhea and vomiting with a death rate approaching 90% in untreated dogs. Vaccinations can prevent this by almost 100%. Young puppies and older dogs are the most vulnerable to this easily prevented disease.
While many veterinarian websites around the world directed at the mainstream population over 7 Billion contained information regarding parvo and its prevention, the world’s leading animal rights group, The Humane Society of the United States, with 11 million members and it’s veterinarian association, HSVMA, contained no information for millions of donating pet-owners about how to prevent a highly contagious and deadly disease. Eleven million people extremely concerned about animal rights blindly unaware of Parvo not to mention the paid staff of both of these related animal rights groups. After searching HSUS's site the only information is in their Animal Sheltering magazine (see here) geared towards shelter prevention and control of parvo. There is NOTHING at all geared towards the average pet owner. The Examiner.com site has more information on it than the HSUS! (See below attached articles)
The only information available was about “two reservations that HSVMA visited on the Nevada trip, Duck Valley and Duck Water. In these desolate settings, free-roaming animals encounter illnesses like Parvo …… And with no shelters or animal control officers on many of the reservations HSVMA visits, animals may die as grittily as they lived”. (HSUS website) Not one mention of how to protect a dog or puppy from contracting the horrid Parvo disease but exploiting the Indian reservations as if they are cruel to animals. It’s not the first time the Indians have been pestered by lobbying groups. The Lobbying scandal involvingfunds from the Indian tribes used inappropriately by the famous Jack Abramoff should be a subtle reminder.
Dr. Golab, director of animal welfare for the AVMA, might be wise to encourage the new found ACAW, an AVMA-recognized veterinary specialty organization, to promote a campaign informing new puppy owners of the dangers of parvo or will they take the advice of Dr. Patty Olson, a member of the Leadership Council of HSVMA and a Charter Diplomat for the ACAW, by way of her boss Wayne Pacelle and ignore all requests for a Parvo campaign such as when asked by Frank Losey to inform the world’s 7 billion pet owners of the Threat of Parvo.
Keeping such information close to vest only leads one to believe that the animal rights groups that claim to be so worried about animal welfare have another agenda. The blatant false advertising by these groups on television commercials concerning saving puppies and kittens are misleading. Their true goal of animal ownership elimination could be accomplished by the spread of Parvo.
